Prime Environment were engaged by a land agent to support a planning application for development of former agricultural land into housing. The scheme was part of a larger phased development of the area.
Our initial appraisal revealed that the site had habitats which could support a range of protected species, and so in order to assess the impacts of the development, we undertook specialist surveys for bats, reptiles and badgers.
Our work demonstrated that, although the site did support protected species (for example, seven species of bat were recorded within the site), with appropriate mitigation in place, development of the site was acceptable.
The scheme includes green corridors, which will be enhanced with wildflower habitats, and a range of bird, bat and invertebrate habitat boxes.
